Security Industry Authority   

Security Industry Authority

The Security Industry Authority is the body established to undertake licensing of the security industry. The SIA web site provides information on its responsibilities and its powers.


Investigator Associations   

Association of British Investigators

With origins dating back to 1913, the Association of British Investigators is now recognised as the premiere professional body for private investigators working in the United Kingdom. Throughout its long history, the Association has worked hard to improve the standing and reputation of the investigative professional.

The Association organises many seminars and workshops. These are designed to maintain standards and to provide a regular flow of information to the regional membership. A wide range of topics are covered, including changes to the law, and the latest trends and developments in techniques and equipment.



Council of International Investigators

The Council of International Investigators was formed to encourage a greater association among owners and operators of investigation agencies while developing their mutual trust and respect. In addition, the Council exists to disseminate information relating to the proper and appropriate standards of practice and thus enhance the profession; create greater respect for the profession by operating ethically and with integrity; provide an enhanced quality of service for all clients at competitive rates by offering continuing education; and support only the highest quality professionals in the investigative business.



Institute of Professional Investigators

The Institute of Professional Investigators was founded in 1976 and is now the largest organisation of its kind in the world. Current representation within the Institute's membership includes Police, MOD, Customs, Local Government, Private Investigators, insurance, accident, Royal Mail, DSS, arson, fraud, forensic and in-house investigators operating nationally and internationally who recognise the need for an academic/vocational Institute acting not only in the interests of its members but also in the public interest.

The Institute provides a full programme of representational services, education and training courses, seminars and other networking events.



International Association of Auto Theft Investigators UK Branch

The International Association of Auto Theft Investigators (IAATI) was formed in 1952 in order to improve communication and co-ordination among the growing family of professional auto theft investigators in the United States of America. The United Kingdom Branch of IAATI was formed in 2001. Membership worldwide is now over 4,000, covering 35 different countries.

The membership is made up from serving and retired police officers, Customs officers, insurance companies and their investigators, vehicle rental companies, members of the vehicle licensing organisations, vehicle manufacturers and many others with a legitimate interest in vehicle theft investigation, prevention and education.



Internationale Kommission der Detektiv-Verbande

Founded in 1964, the I.K.D., ‘Internationale Kommission der Detektiv-Verbande’ (International Federation of Associations of Private Detectives) is an International Umbrella Body consisting of Associations of Private Investigators and Security Practitioners throughout the world.

The IKD is focused on maintaining the highest standards meeting its code of ethics and promoting harmonization of regulations and licensing process, particularly within the European Economic Area.



Scottish Investigators Forum

The Scottish Investigators Forum exists to represent all Investigators in the private sector working in Scotland. To keep members updated with current and proposed legislation and to make representations and recommendations to legislators on topics that effect Investigators.



World Association of Detectives

With origins dating back to 1921, W.A.D. is the longest established and largest International Association of its kind in the world and remains the leading International Association for Professional Investigators and Security Service organizations.

The inexorable march of data protection legislation has created a minefield that lies in wait for even the more experienced investigator, particularly those engaged in international work. If you are involved in international investigations then you need W.A.D. to help you. W.A.D. also assists by contributing to other groups worldwide who are involved with legislators in guarding against over restrictive legislation.



World Association of Professional Investigators

The World Association of Professional Investigators is a body formed by professionals for professionals practising in all areas of investigation.

W.A.P.I. meets the need for a worldwide organisation which can provide a focal point for investigators. W.A.P.I. promotes the investigative profession internationally and provides networking opportunities through which members can exchange ideas, knowledge, methods, advice, education and working assignments.


Other Associations   

American Society for Industrial Security

ASIS is the largest international educational organisation for security professionals, with over 35,000 members worldwide. ASIS is dedicated to increasing the effectiveness and productivity of security professionals by developing educational programmes and materials that focus on both the fundamentals and the most recent advancements in security management.

In the UK, Chapter 208 is the largest chapter of the European Region with over 650 UK members. The Chapter meets five times a year, with guest speakers giving a full day's programme on a huge variety of security subjects.



Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters

The Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters is the powerful voice of the loss adjusting industry, representing members across the UK and overseas.

Consulted by government and the media, the Institute is a leading authority on insurance claim issues, in an industry where hundreds of millions of pounds are at stake each year.



Credit Services Association

The Credit Services Association Limited is dedicated to upholding the highest professional standards with the Trade Protection Industry. Trade Protection relates to not only those directly involved in debt collection, but also those individuals and organisations performing allied functions, so that membership of the Association would be advantageous to those whose business activities encompass recovery of overdue accounts by investigative and reporting instructions. The protection of trade is, therefore, an all embracing affair - a fact readily recognised by the Association.



Enforcement Services Association

The Enforcement Services Association (formerly known as the Certificated Bailiffs Association) was formed in 1906 to provide a central organisation for certificated bailiffs and civilian enforcement agents and to encourage ethical and professional conduct.

Both the public and private sectors are represented among our membership. Members are required to pass an examination and to comply with the Association's Code of Practice. Complaints against members are investigated under its disciplinary procedure. The Association regularly consults with central Government on enforcement policy and legislation.



Ex Police in Industry and Commerce

EPIC (Ex Police in Industry and Commerce) is an association of former Police Officers in the UK who are involved with security in industry and commerce.

The collective security experience of members amounts to over fourteen thousand years. EPIC members are to be found in many of the major National and International companies as senior security executives, and self-employed members provide a wide range of security-related services.



Joint Security Industry Council

The Joint Security Industry Council (JSIC) is the umbrella organisation for a broad group of security associations, inspectorates and organisations. JSIC helps coordinate representations from the industry in discussions with Government and the police on security industry matters, and in turn helps in the process of distributing information from these discussions and other sources back to the industry.



Professional Surveillance Association

The purpose of the Professional Surveillance Association (PSA) is to establish and maintain the highest possible standards in the surveillance profession. Members meet strict educational, professional experience and ethical requirements, ensuring that they represent the highest standards within the industry. They are independent, non-product affiliated specialists.


Email Groups   

British Agents

The British Agents site contains the UK’s Leading investigators, Enquiry Agents, Process Servers & Bailiffs. They come from various backgrounds, including former Police Officers, Intelligence Personnel & Special Forces, bringing a wide range of skills and contacts and in most cases are members of WAD, ABI, IPI, WAPI and NARPO.



UK Investigators

UKINVESTIGATORS is a Mailing Group run by the World Association of Professional Investigators, for all UK professional investigators. Membership is FREE. It is only available for the subscription of professional investigators and professionals related to the investigation profession. New investigators and Overseas professionals with specific UK interests are very welcome. Aims:
(a) To promote networking amongst UK Investigators in all fields of professional investigation
(b) To encourage the exchange of knowledge and information



UKPIN

The UKPIN was created to provide private investigators with a dedicated medium to network with each other and exchange business and information.


 

THE INVESTIGATORS' SECTOR has been formed to co-ordinate discussion and debate on the Private Security Industry Act, and to represent the interests of ALL practicing investigators in England and Wales on licensing issues following the enactment of the Act.

The Investigators Sector is currently not active, and is waiting for an announcement from the Security Industry Authority on licensing.
